one month of complete loveliness

i apologize for my delinquency in posting an update on the world of little c. apparently, babies don't care at all about blogging. i'll use the few minutes i have to give a quick update on all things cate for the last couple of weeks.

• we had our first professional photography session. cate screamed the entire time. miraculously, we got some good shots. but we had to swaddle her in order to calm her down, so she is wearing her baby straight jacket in all of the photos.
• cate met her cousin wyatt. he's a big five months old and can do cool things like laugh and hold his head upright. i predict a lifetime of trouble making from these two. this flower hat from classy is so adorable it kills me.
• we attended our first texas tech event as a family. cate was decked out in all of her red raider finery, including the biggest bow i've ever seen. dad got mad at mom because the bow left a trail of glitter all over cate's head and face. dad hasn't embraced the price of beauty. yet.
  
• we took our first bath. cate seemed to like the whole bathing scene, but she has screamed non-stop through every bath since.
• our first mother's day was spent at classy and pop's. we celebrated with both great grands and lots of aunts and uncles. in honor of our first holiday and mother and daughter, cate and i attempted the first of what will likely be many self portraits. this was the best one. it is tough to take a self portrait photo with someone who can't hold their own head up.
• we played on our activity mat for the first time. we also took our first pass at tummy time. cate can hold her head up while on her tummy and turn her head to the other side. she has also committed her multiplication tables to memory and is working on long division. amazing!
• she's giving her first real smiles. it is so much fun to see her focus her little eyes on you and smile at you like she means it. she's especially smiley after her mid-morning meal. she likes it when i sing "you are my sunshine."
• we celebrated her one month birthday on may 13th. j brought home petit fors and key lime pie which i am sure cate enjoyed vicariously through us. we took lots of pics and it struck me that she will never, ever, ever be this tiny again. i feel like she changes so much every day.
• we're working on sleeping during the night like normal people do. sometimes it goes well. sometimes it does not.

we're so thankful for all of the friends and fam who have cooked for us, visited, called and sent lovely gifts. it has been so much fun to celebrate the incredible blessing of cate with the ones we love.
